What is ShambhavAnanda Yoga®?

ShambhavAnanda Yoga® is a tradition encompassing meditation, asana (yoga body postures), seva (selfless service), and living by each of these practices. It began in 1975 when Sri Shambhavanada founded the first vegetarian restaurant in Boulder, Colorado.

The restaurant (and later a bakery) gave Sri Shambhavananda and fellow residents a dedicated space to grow, thrive, and create a community focused on their principles. Today, these traditions are shared by dedicated practitioners to inspire students to combine “hard work” with “heart work” to rise above life’s challenges.

ShambhavAnanda Yoga® Asana

The practice of ShambhavAnanda Yoga® Asana begins with a strong foundation in body awareness and alignment, then moves deeper, allowing you to explore your own personal experience of yoga through inner focus.

Creative hatha and vinyasa yoga approaches make this practice available for beginning up to advanced level classes. Hatha Yoga offerings are slower paced and strength building, with modifications available throughout. Vinyasa Yoga tends to be faster in pace and focused on breath as a guide between poses, so it may be best suited for those with previous yoga experience. Restorative Yoga is also offered at Shakti River, allowing you to relax and rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.

ShambhavAnanda Yoga® Asana is taught from the heart, not the head. I will respond to the energy and needs of the class through intuition, adaptive sequencing, and depth of practice. Classes incorporate props and modifications with the goal of making yoga rewarding and accessible for everyone.

At Shakti River, we believe that the ultimate purpose of asana is to cultivate a meditative state; to guide you inside where your potential awaits.

ShambhavAnanda Yoga® Meditation

ShambhavAnanda Yoga® Meditation is rooted in the ancient tradition of Kashmir Shaivism, which sees the entire universe as a manifestation of divine consciousness, or Shiva.

Through regular whole-hearted meditation practice, we begin to see this divinity within ourselves and how it shines in everything we do.

ShambhavAnanda Yoga® Meditation practices are diverse yet simple, practical yet profound. They begin on the cushion and in the heart, using breath and mantra to experience what lies beyond the mind. With practice, this subtle awareness is cultivated in all life circumstances, bringing the light of consciousness with you everywhere you go.
